| Notes: | The matrix of this basket is dark reddish brown sandy silt, compact, with 2% pebble inclusions. B45 is a layer with carbon inclusions that formed part of the bottom of B44 but was also overlying the continuation of the foundation trench excavated in B43, to the W of the two blocks. As we proceed excavating in this area it is evident that this is a layer that is very deep. It produced a very large amount of pottery (4 zembils) as well as other material culture. The soil has an almost clay texture and has a lot of similarities with the matrix of the pit on the S side of W215, that was excavated in NB 971 B63. After excavating at a depth of ca. 0.4 meters the layer seems to continue even deeper but it is decided to stop at this point and continue excavating the foundation trench of W215 which was previously dug in B29 but had to stop because it was too narrow at the time to proceed any deeper. Once the foundation trench is dug the plan is to return in the area of B45 and continue excavating under a different basket. | |
