Name:   New Apotheke: D. Kokolopoulos and E. Lambraki Field, context 29
Area:   New Apotheke: D. Kokolopoulos and E. Lambraki Field
Title:   Room 1 - Agricultural Zone (Lower Section)
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1111
Context:   29
Date:   2016/06/01
Stratum:   Few tile fragments, virtually no rocks. Less than one half a pail of pottery was collected.
Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is dark brownish black. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   We opened context 29 on 1/6/16 to more carefully investigate the lower part of the large layer whose upper section we had excavated as context 26. The northwest section of 29 was uncovered to an elevation of 59.06 meters, revealing similar soil to that of context 26, with very few inclusions; we estimate 3% pottery sherds and virtually no rock. On inspecting the site on the morning of 2/6/16, Director Sanders determined that context 29 probably represented 19th-century agricultural material and directed us to open a new context on the east side of structure 12, west of wall 18, to try to find features associated with the construction of structure 12 and of a gully or pipeline which Thanasis pointed out the same morning, running north-south directly beneath wall 18. Accordingly, we closed context 29 without excavating south of 1468.95 N or east of the pit (cut 9) and opened context 32.
