Title:   Room 6 - Top Debris Layer
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1111
Context:   57
Date:   2016/06/07
Stratum:   15% stone, concentrated to the East side; 5% ceramic material
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silt.
Notes:   Excavations began on the West side of Room 6; moving toward the East side of the room, we uncovered a high concentration of medium sized stones (e.g. 0.16 x 0.14 x 0.20) and some tile (e.g. 0.07 x 0.10 x 0.02). Amid this stone scatter, a wall was uncovered (Context 69) roughly 1/4 m West of Wall 60, with further (and deeper) stone scatter uncovered immediately to its western side mixed with tile-- perhaps tumble from 69. In the North-Central area of Room 6 some reddish soil was uncovered. At first we thought that the grayish/blackish brown earth which we had been digging cut into this red layer, which continues beneath the large threshold-like stones in the middle of Wall 58 but appeared to stop just East of this area. Thus we decided to suspend this context, and continue digging the blackish brown earth as context 65. Small tessera, a metal object (possibly a blade), and three pieces of glass were found in this context, as well as a painted terracotta (probably architectural) fragment, which was collected amongst the pottery. There were two buckets of pottery for this context, but that was more because of the extent of this context-- the sherd density was actually rather sparse.
