Stratum:   Less than 10% small tile fragments and stones. One piece of marble (0.12 x 0.06 x 0.02), small amount of charcoal and several animal bones.
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silt.
Notes:   We opened context 67 in order to better understand Wall 69 and its relationship to the surrounding walls (58, 59, and 60). We made one shallow pass through the area (about 5 cm), in which a piece of glass and shell were found. This context was then briefly suspended in order to concentrate efforts on the rest of room 6. The next day we excavated further, perhaps revealing that Wall 59 was floating after its single top course (but further articulation would be necessary to determine this conclusively). Partly based upon this discovery, Guy interpreted Wall 59 as a shoddy twelfth century expansion of Room 6; 59 would therefore post-date all the other walls of the room. Some charcoal and bone were found in the second pass through this area. Context 67 was closed along with the rest of room 6, as surface debris had been uncovered, and we were therefore ready to move on to another area of the site. Partly based on the apparent single course construction of Wall 59, Guy interpreted this wall as a shoddy 12th century expansion of Room 6, thus 59 post-dates all the other walls of this room.
10.6.16 EJ: Continued to articulate around the wall and determined that there are two courses of Wall 59.
