Notes: | Alicia Carter Size of Material: Ave. block= 0.33m x 0.28 x 0.20; Ave. cobble= 0.12m x 0.10 x 0.10. This wall is being recorded as part of a plan to apply to remove some walls in this part of the site to reveal the 11th century AD phase of a house for public display. This wall was revealed during excavations in 1961 recorded in NB 229 where it was given 961 wall #29. The current state of preservation of this wall is very poor. It is collapsed at its south and north ends and at the junction of wall 10099 and wall 10075 a tree was allowed to grow for many years, the roots of which has seriously distrubed both walls. The tree roots also obscure the intersection of these two walls making it impossible to determine if they bond or not. They are founded at the same depth and are built in like styles so it is probable that they are contemporary constructions. Wall 10099 is on the same orientation of 10084 and these two were likely the same wall, but in the space in between no wall is extant. Perhaps there was a threshold in this empty space that provided access from the street to this space (a room bounded by walls 10079, 10084, 10099, 10075 and 10078). | |
