Stratum:   15% inclusions; higher ceramics proportion than previous contexts (1088-1089); pebbles, cobbles, fragments of pebble pavement, charcoal, glass, slag, iron
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   We are excavating this context to determine if the fill level of 1085 continues for the entire area between 918 and 807 up to 1007. If this is the case, it will bring this entire East section to the level of 1085. This excavation should also determine if the soft "pit"? area discovered in 1088 is a pit or just a small discrepency of soil. It also removes the cutting that was revealed in 1009.
This fill revealed a larger proportion of finds and ceramics than 1088. This includes an iron nailhead, glass, charcoal. In the southern portion there was a noticeable increase in iron and slag. A nice lamp was found near 1007 (nearly complete; point taken). Additional finds include a carbonized seed and wall plaster.
Completion of excavation of the context revealed a flat surface even with the bottom of 1085. During excavation more of wall 1007 was revealed (i.e. lower courses). In the western and northern potion, there is a high concentration of cobbles and pebbles that is less compact than the surrounding area.
