Title:   Packed Soil Defined by walls 1007, 945 and 918
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1107
Context:   1092
Page:   0
Date:   2013/04/30
Stratum:   Plaster (red and green), ceramics, bone, medium and coarse pebbles, bronze, carbonized wood, iron nail
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the SE. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   After finishing 1091, the whole area under it (bounded by wall 1007 to the East and 918 to the North and 945 to the south) appeared to be homogenous. The soil is pretty moist and may be slightly redder than higher levels. The surface revealed in this context looks more clayey than 1092 with fewer inclusions.
Excavation of the context revealed a possible, flat surface. As a result, it is very likely that the context we are currently excavating is a dump fill. Pockets of sand were found herein. Because of the possible surface beneath 1092. we decided to sieve 50%.
A large piece of carbonized wood was uncovered.
Lower courses of wall 1007 were revealed in the eastern extent of the trench. The surface revealed in the excavation of this context is flat, but slopes gently to the south.
In the East of the trench there was a soil change. This soil change occupies the entire width of the trench (between walls 918 and 945). The soil on this surface is darker and of a different consistency relative to the surface elsewhere revealed. Because it is next to 1007, it is likely a foundation trench for the wall. (Note: we later discovered this is not the case)// Additionally, there is a possible pit in the NW with many packed cobbles and another smaller pit to the E.
We decided to excavate the east part bounded by walls 1007, 918 and 945 to bring it down to the elevation of surface 1084, an area which the previous session had focused on. We wanted to learn more about the relationship between surface 1092 and wall 1007.
