Stratum:   some iron and bronze, small pebbles and some pottery
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the W. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   We excavated this layer after discovering context 1100 continues underneath 1101, rather than cutting through it as initially believed. Because of this we stopped excavating 1100 after ca. .2-.3 m. We are not sure if the layer under 1084 continues under 1100 and 1101, but on the surface, it appears to end on the western border of the 1101 context. With excavation of this context we hope to better understand the relationship between these layers. This layer is relatively well sorted with mostly large pebbles and the occassional cobble. It is much lighter and slithgly more compact than 1100. It appears the full equivalent to 1100 (and deposited with it) is directly under this context - a much looser and slightly darker soil. This context appears to proceed down tot eh elevation fo the bottom of 1100 and is contiguious with it. So rather than the rill equivalent to 1100 proceeding under 1101, it is the larer underneath 1100 that does. In the NW area of context 1101 we came upon several 1-2 cm lumps of carbonized raw clay
Patches of darker and ligher soil to the NW of the area; hard protrusions to the N of the NW corner. We had originally though this area extended N to 918 but due to the different consistency of the soil to the N we stopped ca. 5 cm off 918. Eastern part of 1101 is fairly level, but the western part is uneven.
The stratigraphy in the west of this context becomes very complicated. The layer under 1101 slpes sharply downwards in this potion of the trench. In the West end of the context much burning was discovered that may be linked to the burning layer recealed in the excavation of 1078/1084. Additionally in The N, ca. .5 m under the column drum was found a distinct layer of greenish white clay. This and 1101 seem to be cutting this layer. 1102 seems to be laying on top of this layer chronologically.
