Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   This context was revealed with the excavation of 1113 and 1114. We are excavating this fill to elucidate further the stratigraphy and the relationship between the dump fills and possible robbing trenches to the E and W. Similar to our aims on this side of Wall 918 as a whole, we hope to better understand occupation in this area and information lost in a previous excavation.
This context initially slopes upwards to the wall to the S and is approximately level to the N. It is a darker, looser soil, better sorted and filled with small pebbles. It appears to have more inclusions than 1113 and 1114, but these are generally smaller.
We took this are down to a compact clayey layer. We left an artificial baulk on the N end because much time has elapsed since the last excavation in the area. As a result, we wanted to make sure not to contaminate 1115. This bault will be excavated as 1116. It also became clear that our context (1115) is actually the fill of a cut (which we will call 1117).
