Title:   Foundation trench for north of wall 366
Notebook:   1107
Context:   1161
Page:   0
Date:   2013/05/30
Description:   The context shape in plan is rectrangular. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are vertical. The break at the base of the cut is sharp. The base of the cut is tapered blunt point. Truncation: C685 at west.
Notes:   This very narrow trench runs along the north face of wall 366, since the wall is still standing 0.90m above where we picked up the trench as cut through deposit 1162.
We have assigned this trench a new cut number to replace the old cut number 682, which represents the robbing of wall 366 further west. It is currently impossible to know how high up along the wall cut 1161 originally reached; we picked it up at 86.23m above sea level, at the top of deposit 1162.
Above 1161 was already excavated when we began work in this area in 2013, but either C1161 (foundation) or C682 did cut through the sequence of surfaces S911, S1153, S1156, and S1157, so none of these ought to be associated with the wall 366, but rather predate its construction and use. Cut 1161 does stop, however, at a transitional point in wall 366 (coordinates 1007.01N, 260.91E), suggesting that the eastern extent of the wall is earlier.
