Stratum:   Among the inclusions were ceramic sherds (coarse and fine), tile, bone, small bits of shell, small stones (sub-rounded). Inclusions c.40%.
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the W. The soil color is light brownish white. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Compact destruction or dump fill, seems to contain pottery as late as the Frankish period. Comes down on a compact reddish earth.
This deposit seems to have been cut by the bothros on the east. In the westernmost area this deposit came down on a possible floor, which was overlaid on the south and east by reddish earth with large tile inclusions. This latter level will be removed next as it seems to overlie the possible western floor.
If there is indeed Frankish pottery in this deposit, we would have a problem with chronology as 1212 is cut by the pit containing material from the 3rd quarter of the 12 cc. CE (latest). We wonder whethe 1212 might be dumped fill? Another option is that the pit had Late Byzantine/Early Frankish as the latest deposit, and we are right on the cusp of the transition to Frankish material culture at Korinth following the 4th Crusade.
Update: After examining the pottery and stratigraphy of the area, we have now come to the conclusion that deposit 1212 was NOT cut by pit 1211 but rather spilled over into it. It seems that pit 1211 was never fully filled, and so these later Frankish leveling fills appeared at first glance to have been cut by the pit, but they had simply spilled over into it. The Frankish leveling fills in our West area are probably related to the Frankish activity around Well 193.
