Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the W. Bottom slope of the context is slight down to the WThe soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   At long last we are clearing the last of the plow furrows. Andreas began picking at B33 after completing B30. Billy and Thanasis are just now finishing B27 (the SE quadrant). The north raised ridge was excavated along with this basket. It should be noted that the section of the ridge north of B30 is being excavated separately as B34. This is because B30 was already complete when we decided that the north ridge was the same soil as the furrowed area. When I say "north ridge" I mean a buildup of earth north of the last plow furrow, a buildup which then drops off sharply. Andreas and Vangelis finished digging this quadrant on the morning of the 24th. This layer is composed of the same soil as the other areas cut by the plow furrows. A modern cigarette lighter appeared in the pottery basket when I wasn't looking. I'm relatively sure that it belongs to one of the workmen, who tossed it in (to throw it away? as a joke?). I was highly amused. No architectural remains were found in this quadrant of the layer.
In the NE corner we dug down to a layer of stones (large pebbles and small cobbles) which have been visible to the side for some time (see Lydia's note on ??). Due to a misunderstanding, the younder Andreas began to dig into the stone-filled layer which we had intended to excavate separately. This was discovered at about 11:00 by Lydia and Alicia. Basket 33 is thus contaminated, so I am very pleased with the decision to excavate the furrowed area in quadrants. The two workemn named Andreas then simply carted the rest of the stones away, since the stones were highly disturbed by that time, and of no further use to us.
