Stratum:   The soil is a gark yellowish brown, loose, soft sandy silt with 20% poorly sorted inclusions including pottery sherds, tile fragments, stones which are subrounded and angular.
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the E. Bottom slope of the context is slight down to the EThe soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   (Formation cont.) and also soil borne by water running down the S to N slope towards H Robinson's 1960's excavation escarpment. Also likely: this is an earlier phase of agricultural zone (plow zone?) that is earlier that B2=B24/B22.
EXCAVATION NOTES:
Lydia H. is drawing the plan for B34 and Kris L. is recording the notes.
After the removal of B29, the dark soil deposit/bothros SE of B26 our "hearth or potting area" we moved Cleomenes N to begin removing B34. This level was uncovered early in the course of removing B2 in the N1/2 of the excavation area.
B34 continues East past 271 E as the most North part of B33. Josh L. is recording B33, therefore, see the notes for B33 for further questions regarding the North part of B33.
Cleomenes completed excavating the upper portion of B34 on 24/04/07. While the shovel man and wheelbarrow men removed this first portion Cleomenes began to excavate a lower portion since there was no change in the soil.
Directly to the N of B34 on the N side of the E/W wall, the south edge of which forms the northern boundary of B34, and under B13 a pit labeled "b" on the bottom plan in B13's records was uncovered. A working hypothesis at this time is that pit "b" may also exist below B34 on the south side of the E/W wall. If this is correct than once the relationship between the 2 sections of pit "b" and the E/W wall is worked out we will hopefully have more info concerning the construction of the E/W wall.
After the removal of a 2nd layer of B34 the soil changed to the same as B23, so once the remnants of B34 have been removed and the area swept I will close the basket. Unfortunately we did not find the southern continuation of pit "b" on the S side of the wall under B34 at this time.
