Description:   Top slope of the context is moderate down to the E. Bottom slope of the context is moderate down to the EThe soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is moderately sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   B5118 is the excavation of the cut that surrounds the pithos. The cut was first identified while excavating B5112. On the SW side of the pithos and after removing ca. 0.25 of dirt, a small piece of plastic was found. It is not however considered contamination of the deposit. More likely this plastic was carried there by insects. The main problem while excavating B5118 was that after the removal of a significant amount of dirt around the pithos we were worried that the pithos would fall apart, since its body has several cracks and at the moment it is held place only by the dirt which surrounds it. It is decided to excavate as deep as possible and then stop while the pithos is still intact in order to photograph it and sketch it. As excavation proceeds deeper around the pithos more fragments of roof tiles are excavated. These were probably used in the lower part of the fill in order to better stabilize the pithos in position. It is decided to stop at this point because digging any deeper might cause the pithos to collapse.
