Description:   Structure materials: Limestone, fieldstone, tile, and jurassic limestone.. Material size: L 0.60m and W 0.48m to 0.16m by 0.12m. Material finish: varied, unworked fieldstone and rough dressed ashl. Material construction: random courses. Material bonding: none. Features: doorpost cuttings.
Notes:   Structure 5411 is an E-W oriented wall that is cut on the west and by the Turkish wall (5217). On the eastern edge, the wall is bounded by an othostate and the N-S oriented wall 5284. 5284 and 5411 abut at the corner, although at this time no bonding is visible. The masonry style of randomly coursed roughly dressed ashlars and fieldstone with random semistrings of roff tile is similar in both 5411 and 5284. 5411 has two cuttings in alignment which appear to be cuttings fro door jambs. The cast cutting is 0.20 and 0.14-0.15m with a stepped bottom, 4 cm-3cm deep. The space between the jamb cuttings is filled with later phase in the wall, described in structure 5285. The cement floor ( 5415 ) continues underneath the second phase (5285). It covers part of th west cutting interpreted as a door jamb, so the floor must postdate this use of the cutting.
The high elevation reflects the elevation taken on the orthostate where walls 5411 and 5284 meet.
POST-EXCAVATION NOTE, 15-06-09, S.L.: Contexts 6663 and 6649, at least one of which underlies this context, were found to contain two joining coarse incised ware body fragments of the Frankish period, dating to the mid-13th century. These sherds will stratigraphically change the dates of every context that lies above them by as much as two centuries, of which this context is one. Until it is decided whether there is some other reason that this discrepancy might have occurred (e.g., these contexts need to be situated in a different place on the Harris Matrix), the dates will remain as they have been assigned on the basis of pottery/stratigraphy prior to discovering this discrepancy.
