| Description: | Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light greyish brown. The soil compaction is hard. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt. | |
| Notes: | After many days of excavating in and around the built pithos (5504), we have returned to excavate the floor through which the pithos was cut into. The distribution and composition of 5528 is a floor exposed under 5428 and likely associated with the construction of the tile built pithos. Leveling fill is found under 5528 and contains more roof tiles and cobbles and the soil is noticeably softer (5531). What is currently exposed under 5528 appears similar to the deposit exposed under 5525. A water sieve test sample was performed to if there were any carbonized organics. Only some small bits of charcoal were identified. The southern limit of this context was delineated by an exposed lump of the leveling fill that is underneath (5531) and was exposed upon removal of 5428. This leveling fill will be the next context removed (5531). IN conclusion, the lack of bone and carbonized organics suggests that the floor may have been swept. Ot if living floor debris were to be recovered, it would have been removed with the fill deposit 5428. | |
