Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark greenish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silt.
Notes:   We returned to excavating the foundation trench of Wall 5724, because we assumed that there would still be fill continuing downward and mirroring the wall's foundations. A distinction had been made between this level of fill and the one above it on the basis of compaction and inclusions.
The pickman uncovered more stones from the wall, and it was clear that the change in soil that had been identified at the close of 5686 corresponded with a change in wall construction. We decided to make this the end of the basket, since we appear to be dealing with two phases of wall construction of wall 5724, meaning that the second foundation trench could possibly be cutting an earlier underlying level below 5768 and the underlying plastered floor level.
The coin that we found from this context came from a position close to the topmost surface of the unit.
Additional note: the excavation of this context is important because we are currently interested in exploring a contradiction that was discovered on 2.06.08. We noticed that day that one foundation trench for Wall 5725 cuts fill 5768 to the W; but there is not yet a cut visible to the E limit of the wall 5725 on its S side. We are trying to conclusively reconstruct how walls 5724 and 5725 connect (they appear to bond), and what, if any, evidence we have for how and when they were constructed.
