Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is well sorted. It is silty clay.
Notes:   This context was opened in order to remove a possible floor or debris from wall fall located under 5924 and 5920. This area is characterized by compact soil with flat-lying sherds lying on top, more densely distributed to the N than the S abutting threshold 5919.
For a while we were concerned that this was a layer of debris from wall fall, because the soil is softer higher near the wall 5919 to the S. However, this just appears to be disturbed, possibly from root action, and we think it is far more likely to be another floor (under a red clay floor 5920 and over a pebble floor 5934).
Upon excavating to the S, we determined that the sherd-rich soil to the N was distinct from the soil to the S. 5925 is a surface over a pebble floor that was seemingly patched at a low point (in the N of this unit) with flat-lying sherds. The bottom of this unit, therefore, reveals a thin layer of soil over a pebble surface with tile patching. This unit is a surface composed of a thin layer of soil and some tile to the S.
