Description:   The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   Context 5939 is apparent leveling fill in east half of room which is west of courtyard of Byzantine house. Appears to be uppermost leveling fill in east half of room making it good candidate for excavation. One goal, in addition, is to define eastern boundary of this context which is currently difficult to decipher.
Removal of context 5939 revealed more of apparent floor surface which had first been revealed in west part room by removal of 2008 contexts 5600, 5593, 5996
Also revealed by removal of context 5939 were two possible features: one at northern end of context was circular with several stones at its edges and clearly distinct boundary of pinkish soil. The second was another circular feature demarcated by a stone boundary in the central western part of the context. Both had associated ash/charcoal. At eastern edge of context a leveling fill which includes large amounts of tile.
Originally it was thought that context 5939 continued through doorway at eastern edge of room into courtyard; then decided that continuation into courtyard was not the same.
As removal of context 5939 continued, it became apparent that tile-filled area to the east was probably part of this context and was partially removed with it. Area under threshold block and down into courtyard given new context number 5941, but it does represent the same context.
