| Description: | Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light greenish grey. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt. | |
| Notes: | We opened 6420 after digging 6416 for 0.55 m - the change of context was part of an approximate series of context changes due to the well depth and is not reflective of a change in the soil. At the sieve, we found many small bones (fish, birds, etc), shells, fish scales, egg shells, some iron and some glass. Upon the advice of Director Sanders, we placed a 3mm sieve pan below the 7mm one to catch the small matter that fell through when the soil was sieved initially.The sieving was looked through fairly meticulously. The soil itself was still light greenish grey, and contained less ash than in previous contexts higher up in the well. We closed the context because we complete a 0.30 m pass and because we seemed to be getting an increased number of pebbles, small cobbles and particularly small chunks of cream-colored clay streaked with greenish/yellow veins of clay and sand. The left half of an unfused cat cranium from this context articulates with the right half from 6430. | |
