The soil color is light greenish grey. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is very poorly sorted. It is silty clay. | | Notes: | | We opened context 6430 after completing a 0.30 pass as context 6420 and also because we started to notice more small to medium sized chunks of a chalky, beige-colored clay that is marble with greenish yellow veins of clay and sand. There also seems to be many more large, well-preserved bones in 6430 than were in 6420, although this is based on an estimation from inspection of the buckets coming out of the well, rather than a final analysis after sieving.
Because we had begun using a 3mm screen for dry sieving on the advice of Sanders, the sieving process became much more time consuming, thus causing a major back-up of dirt. 26 buckets of soil were removed from the well to be sieved the following Monday (18/5/09).
