Description:   The context shape in plan is rectrangular. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are concave. The break at the base of the cut is gradual. The base of the cut is flat. Truncation: Truncated by cut 6756 for robbing trench; cut travels beneath walls 6375 and 5725.
Notes:   Cut 6762 is a cut for a round pit located in the room west of the courtyard of the Byzantine house. It was revealed by the removal of context 6761. Cut 6762 is only clearly visible on its western side. It was truncated to the south by robbing trench cut 6756 and to the north and east is travels beneath walls 5725 and 6375 respectively with the pit fill clearly visible in the scarp beneath both walls. Cut 6762 truncates a reddish mud-brick surface which covers most of the surface of the northern half of the room between walls 6738 and 5725. What is preserved of the cut suggests the pit would have been fairly substantial in size. Excavation continued on 19/04/10. The bottom of cut 6762 appears to sterile soil. The scarp of the western side of the cut also provides a good indication of what contexts remain to be dug. In this scarp are layers of mud-brick, marl clay, and what appears to be some evidence for burning at certain points.
Additional Notes: SG (22/4/10)
Further excavation came to suggest that cut 6762 was for a robbing trench for a N-S wall. Fill 6808 is contained within this cut and its removal revealed several large blocks sitting beneath structure 6738. See the entry for 6808 for more information.
