Stratum:   50% sherds, iron, mixed in ash.
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark greyish red. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   6997 is a continuation of the excavations of the 2008 session II team in what we are calling Room C (the 3rd room this session for us) and what was called Room F in 2008. The room is bounded by walls 5403, 5435, 5434, 5450, 5346, 5553.
We began in the west of the room, dated later than the eastern section by the previous excavators, between wall 5446 and wall 7001, which was revealed in the cleaning, 6982. The soil is reddish brown mixed with ash appearing to overlie the most western section beyond 7001. We found two coins, bone tools, nails, shells, ash, a stamped, base and a complete ceramic lid, a large slate, large tile fragments, along with lots of pottery. We stopped upon hitting a layer which no longer contained ash.
