Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   Larger chunks of tiles (about 10 to 20 cm long) started coming out after about 15 baskets of soil. After several more buckets of soil, larger animal bones (cow size) started emerging. These are larger than sheep and goat's. One antler was also removed from this context. These accompany a denser deposit of cooking pot sherds some quite large and incorporating almost complete profiles of the pots and large storage amphorae. Less glazed ware is present though there is some. Also present are small bones that appear to be worked into spines and smaller bones such as those found in fish and fish scales. Two soil samples were taken from these material rich context for flotation analysis. After discovering a possible coin, a nail was placed at the bottom of the well's walls (context 671) so that the elevation and placement of material discovered in the bottom of the well fill could be approximated more exactly. This nail head was placed at north 1004.5 and easting 261.08 and elevation 85.40. The context appears to be done after elevation 83.90. At the bottom the diameter is wider than it is closer to the base of the well's walls forming a bell-shaped cavity floored with harder, lighter soil. Guy suggests that this could indicate its use for storage rather than as a well. It might also extend to the north in the scarp of the cavity.
