Description:   Top slope of the context is level down to the N. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   This context is the removal of wall 540, which was the north-south division between blue and pink areas. The wall itself is fully described on the structure sheet for 540. The fill between the unworked boulders and cobbles was dark greyish brown and firm. It included much tile, some pottery, some bone, metal, and glass. We also found a partial marble column base and a terracotta palmette within the wall.
We stopped the context when we reached the bottom of the stones comprising the wall, the soil became more yellow and compact. Underneath the wall, we hope to find the continuation of the floors excavated during the 2012 season, in order to understand better how the east and west sides of the excavation area relate to each other.
In addition, a coin belonging to this context was found during sieving. Sieving also turned up a large quantity of bone. At the end of the context, the area below was divided between blue and pink teams, with the blue team continuing to excavate the northern half of the pedestaled fill in context 974 whereas the pink team in the southern half in context 973.
