This context contains an unusually circular area on its W side, see photo, it contains more cement chunks than other areas which may explain its whiter color and looser nature. This context consists of a large level of rubble, tile, and cement chunks, in the center there is a patch of broken pan tiles lying glat roughly in the area of the well head. We discovered the top of the well just to the E of that tile area. It sounded a little hollow above. The fill within it had subsided to ca. 0.5 m below well head. On the E side along wall 18 there is an area of larger stones and soft darker soil. It is possible that it is fill in the robbing trench for this wall. We dug a small portion of it and stopped, although no cut is visible. This context is also revealing the same "floor" surface as in 24.
Coin #133 was found at an elevation of 87.48, the same as the earlier coin. This same floor surface became clearly evident near the west boundary of 28, and so it was decided that it extended in all directions - 28 overlays this floor surface with a clear boundary. Near the west of 28 tiles and amphora sherds overlaid larger rocks as the elveling surface. Both were removed as part of 28. Coin #134 was found at an elevation of 81.46. Another compact surface, possibly a second leveling floor is revealed below the flooor at the bottom of context 28. This was found while continuting through 28, but will be explored after the first floor surface is revealed - the one 28 overlays. To be clear, 28 overlays one floor level, context _______, which overlays another distinctly floor-like survace. This was an overdigging mistake, immediately corrected. This overdigging is only approximately 10cm wide and 90cm long, at the largest and widest. It is in the NW section of 28. No material was pulled, thus contamination is very unlikely. The coins found all seem to be at the same elevation, and all near the western border of 28. Most of the rocks pulled for 28 on the SW portion were smaller than other parts of 28, averaging smaller than cobble sized at their largest.
Coin #136 was unearthed from the sieve.
The overdigging mistake turned out not to be a mistake, but there is an uneven floor of clayey yellowish soil over the whole area. We expanded on the West side to about 5cm beyond the N-S wall structure. At the supposed junction of the N-S and E-W walls there was an area of softer soil. North of the possible robbing trenches noted earlier were just patches of soft soil.
