Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 102
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   1st lens of fill in the courtyard

Notebook:   1108
Context:   102
Date:   2014/04/15
Stratum:   20% small to medium angular cobbles and flat cobbles; tile and ceramics
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the S. The soil color is light brownish black. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   The surface of 102 is hardpacked like a well-trodden (interior, Guy suspects) courtyard. Under it are patches of reddish soil. Also revealed is an oval depression 1.16 x .85m, northwest of the circular stone structure. The pass was made from the northeast corner and moved south. The northeast corner was the highest elevation and seemed to be of a different material than the northwest portion. In the southeast corner a road surface was revealed. The edge of the surface runs in a jagged NE to SW diagonal about from the place where the south wall of the stone structure 94 meets the west wall of Unit 2 Room A. Thanassis has left a martyr of c. .40m along the reconstructed walls. The head of a terracotta figurine was found along the south wall of the courtyard (102.97E, 1059.14N, 85.83H). At the western extent of the deposit along the rectangular depression running toward the south drain, the soil becomes much looser. We worried about digging through the cut for the drain, but we didn't see evidence of it. (Ioulia says the figurine is Hellenistic so not relevant to our context.) When we reached the drain we decided to move to the newly revealed pit.
Finds: 1 bag metal; 1 bag glass, terracotta figurine
Animal bones, 1.65 kg, thrown.
