Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 755
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Continuation of Fill of Small Pit N of SE Pier
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1109
Context:   755
Date:   2015/05/14
Lot:   Lot 2015-017
Stratum:   10% rounded, spherical medium pebbles. Same inclusions as that of 746, the ash traces were not encountered.
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the E. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is well sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   (KTT) In discussion with Larkin we decided to change contexts, making an arbitrary division within the pit. Thus 755 is equal 746. Also note that while we recorded the inclination of the new context, this is artificial, a result of excavation and not an actual slope.
The workmen were uncomfortable sieving the soil from this context as it is quite moist (we insisted on sieving the rest of 746 in order to close the context). We have therefore set out nylon on which the soil will dry before sieving later today or tomorrow.
(ERA) The work continues uninterrupted. With the exception of one smaple for water sieving the work has just consisted ofremoving successive buckets of soil. The soil presents the same consistent characteristics, even including a clear diiferential ____ with the rest of the soils around.
Due to the amount of soil emptied from the pit, it was decided to take a second sample for the water sieve. Although the characteristics of the deposit remain the same (perhaps with the exception of a couple of stones ca. 20 cm) this sample was taken to compare at a higher resolution level.
Excavation has finally reached the bottom of the pit. The boundary is very sharp, changing rapidly from a dark brown to a reddish more compact soil.

(KTT) ca. 7:30am We resume work and are finishing the removal of the soil in the pit. We are also sieving the now dry fill we left out yesterday.
A very dark layer has been revealed in the E, while a slightly higher (in elevation) layer of black and red has come up in the West. We will wait for Panos to return and discusswhether these two are the same context and consitute the bottom of the fill of the pit.

(KTT) The workmen finished removing the fill of this pit, though we continue to sieve soil from previous days. Some interesting finds are now coming from the sieve, some coins and a bronze ring.
We are clsing this context, once sieving is complete, and we are also planning on drawing the scarp of the pit.
We will now resume working on the large, shallower pit.
