Stratum:   The soil included fine and medium pebbles, pottery, tile fragments, and bone.
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty clay.
Notes:   The fill for this burial included largish items like cobbles and broken tiles. As we came down on the skeleton with the cranium located under structure 979, we found that there were disarticulated bones pusehd to the sides of the inhumation (skeleton 977). The disarticulated bones appear to be juvenile remains.
The burial is located directly north of NW Pier Base (Str. 23). It does not use th epier base as the south side of the burial cut though. The cut (978) is ca. 8 cm south.
Excavation to the west of the cranium of skeleton 981 revealed another cranium essentially right above the cranium. It looks as though it is under the cranium from 981. The disarticulated bones on top and beside are skeleton layer 977.
As we removed skeleton layer 977 and the inhumation skeleton 981, we uncavered a large stone which seems to be of similar size, shape, and material to those in structure 950. Inhumation 981 was essentially on top of the stone, making the stone earlier.
