Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is hard. The soil is very poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This context was opened after the removal of structure 22 with a large truck as it was a later addition to the wall (Wall 21). The soil beneath it is being excavated in order to explore the date the threshold was raised and to see if we can determine the oriignal height (and consequently the floor level) of the church's threshold. Excavation started in the morning but paused after conservation (Nicol) finished at the E end of Grave 2016-07 to finish cleaning the grave cut and to deal with Sekelton 996. Afterwaqrds, we returned to excavating this fill (around 12:30). This context was ended when we encountered a thin layer with lime, which appeared to be better sorted than the material above and appears above a clear line of tiles.
