Corinth Monument: Tile Works
Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Monument
Name:   Tile Works
Description:   To the north of the junction of the road leading to the village from the Argos road is a shed covering a well preserved tile kiln. The kiln consists of two long fire chambers over which were once built the floor and superstructure of the firing chamber. Heat from the furnace was conducted into the upper chamber through perforations in the floor. Surrounding the kiln were found wells, vats and drying floors for preparing the clay. The Late Archaic and Classical finds indicate that pottery and figurines were made here in addition to roof tiles, antefixes and ridge palmettes.
