Description:   Ionic capital, preserving small part of corner egg, covered by 3 petals of half-palmette, separated by deep channels, and springing from a smaller leaf; canalis framed above by bead-reel; 2 bead-reels outline volute, while a single one follows spirals of volute, ending in a small rosette; bolster carved with 3 different sets of leaves: at tip a row of large water leaves, separated by pointed plain leaf; below this a row of acanthus leaves, below which two rows of water leaves(?) with angular central rib, tied by an acanthus leaf, tip of which preserved on abacus. Abacus carved with egg-dart, eggs pointed, dart straight like the reel. Top surface worked with claw chisel for band 0.135 wide extending back from front face; thereafter worked smoothly. A faint incised line runs parallel to front face, 0.026 from edge of resting surface. Another incised line runs at rt. Angles to face at 0.226 from rt. Edge. Capital mended: a segment of edge of volute added separately, surface worked smoothly, traces of cement.
Material:   Fine-crystalled micaceous white marble.
Condition:   Fragment. Several joining frgts., preserving part of one face: right volute, edge of echinus, canalis; half of bolster on side; abacus in front and side. Small part of edge of volute missing. Small non-joining frgts., left in lot.
