Title:   MIDDLE GEOMETRIC II TREFOIL MOUTH OINOCHOE

Description:   Trefoil mouth oinochoe with flaring ring foot, rounded resting surface, flat undersurface, ovoid body with max. diam. above the median of the body, long, narrow cylindrical neck flaring out to trefoil rim with tapered lip; vertical twisted handle attached to shoulder and rim. Profile similar, but not identical, to Kerameikos 300 (Coldstream, Greek Geometric Pottery, 1968, pl. 5a).
Decoration:   Black glaze overall with red firing cloud on shoulder; reserved undersurface and resting surface of foot; four sets of three reserved lines at regular intervals on the body up to just below the handle; window-panel on front of neck with three reserved lines above and below enclosing from bottom to top tear-drop pattern, two reserved lines, and three zigzag lines; glaze continues just inside rim. Decoration similar, but not identical, to Kerameikos 870 (Coldstream, Greek Geometric Pottery, 1968, pl. 3c) and CP 1893 (Corinth VII.1, p. 20, no. 71, pl. 11).
Material:   Fine very pale brown clay fired pink at core with rare medium to large rounded black, rare small subrounded white lime inclusions, and rare subrounded voids.
Munsell Color:   Surface: 10YR 7/3 (very pale brown), Core: 7.5YR 7/3 (pink)
Condition:   Complete or intact. Numerous joining fragments preserve the whole vessel, several chips and fragments missing throughout. Glaze almost completely worn except for firing cloud on shoulder. RIP. Black discoloration on indersurface of foot.
