Description:   Rectangular altar with vertical walls crowned by narrow fillet, hawksbeak (H. 0.028) and fascia (H. 0.011); top flat and smooth. Back face cut at 0.073 below top with flat finished edge so that lower half of back was open. On interior of side panel, stump of partition (Th. 0.023) extended from side to side.
Rectangular, portable altar with vertical walls, flat top. Walls crowned on at least two sides, front and side, by narrow fillet (H. 0.035), Doric hawksbeak (H. 0.028) and flat fascia (H. 0.011). Front face preserves part of panel (H. 0.030), cut at 0.073 m below top with flat finished edge so that its lower half was open. A shallow rectangular molding, perhaps a pilaster, might have framed the proper left side of the frontal facem as is suggested by the slight protuberance on the break at upper left which broadens the top. The estimation of the altar's width and the strut's central location is also suggested by the reconstruction of the decorated lotus details below in "decoration."
Decoration:   All surfaces slipped, interior more thinly. At back corner with right side, broken surace where feature (W. 0.023) projected from back face; unclear whether this ended bottom of back face or continued for full height of altar. On right face, small spool 'handle', set horizontally near corner, projects in relief 0.065 below top. Painted decoration: on hawksbeak, ghost of Doric leaf in red and brown, continuing onto fillet; below, on back, band of maeander in brown paint. On right side, upper part below crown reserved; below, field painted red, upper edge of which curing down toward corner; in it, half of lotus in reserve, consisting of central panel and one to left. On interior of side panel, surface also painted red beginning 0.056 below interior tpo surface, that is, painted field begins where back breaks off.
All surfaces are slipped, interior more thinly. On front face, panel preserves a double meander to right painted red. Above, fillet and hawksbeak preserve a very faint pattern of tongues that start on the lower convex part of the hawksbeak and curl out on the beak outlined in brown, the centers alternating brown and red. On the fascia, a very faint red square, perhaps part of a key pattern. Side face (see Pl. 8) is reserved and decorated with a field painted red, upper edge of which curves down toward corner; in it, half of a lotus in reserve, consisting of a central leaf and one to left. If we complete the lotus leaf on the right, the lotus would be as wide as 0.185m. On top, set horizontally near corner, 0.065m below top, is a small spool-shaped "handle" in relief that widens at the extremities and is broken ar both ends, decorated with alternating vertical black and red lines. On the interior of side face another red field is preserved, beginning 0.056 m bleow interior's top, upper edge of which also curves down. Moldmade.
