Description:   Male head (ca. one-half lifesize) of young adult; hair falls in regular locks from a central part at the crown of head, a row of protruding locks in straight line over forehead, comma-shaped, undulating locks at the sides of head in diagonal line swept back away from the face, half covering ears. Oval face with short forehead, protruding browline over widely spaced, oversized eyes (some evidence of articulation of eyelids), long and rather broad nose between rounded cheeks. Small, narrow mouth with wide lips and a pointed and protruding chin, neck is thick and wide and flares into a rectangular base, triangular in section, sloping from back to front. Resting surface of base is smoothly finished, no attachment holes. Back of head is cut in a flat surface at 90 degree angle to resting surface of base, roughly finished, no attachment holes.
Material:   Coarse-grained white marble
Condition:   Complete or intact. Complete; burning over entire surface, more pronounced on right side. Marble has begun to calcine, large crack on lt side of neck continuing to back, small crack along back edge of resting surface, all four corners and front of base chipped.

Chronology:   First half of 3rd c. A.C., based on style. C.f. Inan & Rosenbaum 1966, no. 59 (miniature bust of Geta); Fittischen & Zanker 1985, no. 97 (bust of Elagabalus). Mary Sturgeon dates it to Late Hellenistic/Early Roman based on style and heavy wear signs.

Findspot Description:   266.94E, 1015.64N, El. 85.33; found facedown at bottom of pit in fill containing large amounts of ash and charcoal as well as fragments of fine molded glass, painted wall plaster, and a Niederbieber 77 amphora - all with evidence of burning.
