Title:   STATUE OF A DRAPED FEMALE, NIKE
Category:   Sculpture
Category Code:   S
Object Number:   2073
Description:   Life-sized standing draped female figure, right leg weight-bearing, left lef slightly bent forward. Left shoulder higher than right. She wears a Doric peplos pinned at shoulders, with V-shaped folds between breasts. The overfold is girded about the waist with a cord knotted at the center. The amount of material brought up over the belt is greater towards the sides of the figure with left folds hanging lower than right. The kolpos folds are then drawn in toward the central knot. The overfold terminates in a series of omega folds. The vertical folds over the right leg are tubular and separated by deepply cut channels; the material is smoothed over the bent left leg. The peplos is open on the proper right side, the hem making broad zigzag folds down the leg. In the back are two vertical cuttings 0.052 m. wide and 0.045 m. deep; they begin at the top of each shoulder and extend to mid back. A single iron dowel remains near the top of each cutting, presumably for the pinning of wings. The back of the figure is not carefully finished. Rasp marks on drapery, drill in folds, point marks in cavity for head. Arms also worked separated. Treatment of peplos resembles Varvakeion and Belrin Univ. copies of Athena Parthenos.
