Progress of the excavations in the central area of the Agora. In foreground are the foundations uncovered by Dr. Dörpfeld in 1896 and by the Greek Archaeological Society in 1907 (Section ΟΕ). The partly demolished wall is all that remains of the northern end of Poseidonos Street, removed by the end of the season. Cf. 1997.09.0032 for a view of the trenches three months earlier.
View of the section during excavation. On the extreme right, the south end of the Stoa of Attalos is visible, on the left is the Chapel of St. Spyridon. In order to read more about that church see Hesperia 4 (1935), pp. 442-469.
View of the threshold and the marble piers of the archway that marks the beginning of a marble-paved street leading directly to the Market of Caesar and Augustus.
