Title:   Capital Fragment: Ionic: Painted

Description:   Front face only preserved. The fragment retains the angle between volute and cushion, which is filled with a partial palmette carved in two planes and with painted petals. Surfaces other than of palmette, are roughened with a toothed chisel.
From the Temple of Athena at Sounion.
Gray marble with pronounced foliation.
Context:   From marble pile near middle of Stoa. Brought in 1951.
