Title: | Ceiling Slab Fragments
Category: | Architecture Marble
Description: | a) Rib between coffer, with single astragal. Upper part broken away. Width, coffer to coffer, preserved, and height of coffer face on one side. Rabbet. Return of astragal preserved, but not intersection. Considerable remains of paint, similar in scheme to Temple of Ares ceiling slabs, but different in quality, as though with an oil base rather than with water. b) Corner of slab at end. No setting lines. Paint giving important evidence. Cutting for dowel on bottom at side. From the Temple of Hephaistos. Pentelic marble. ADDENDA Probably flank peristyle (CNE, July 1969).
Context: | Exact provenience unknown. Found along with Temple of Ares Fragments probably from the Valerian Wall (A 1510 ff.). Presence of Roman cement indicates same provenience for this fragment (H.A.T).
