Body.
Bottom, one handle, and part of wall and rim restored.
Bottom of pyxis curves in, apparently to flat bottom. Cylindrical body with flange at top and bottom; deep groove at two-thirds height.
Lip raised only very slightly above upper flange. Horizontal strap handles. Ox-blood red band at junction of lower flange and body; traces of pink above it; ox-blood red band at junction of upper flange and body. Somewhat coarse, red fabric (2.5YR 5/8) with abundant mica and red and white inclusions; traces of chalk-white slip.
Similar: P 21657 (A 14:1, fill II), but with no trace of slip and no groove on wall.
Cf. Kübler and Gebauer 1942, col. 243, fig. 19 in col. 231; some similarity in shape to a much smaller pyxis from Edessa (Drougou 1991, p. 133).
