Oinochoe: Italian?
Part of handle and mouth.
Slightly outturned rim. Large triple handle with appliqué head of Dionysos at base, facing into mouth of vessel. Head turns to proper left, has thick hair, and wears fillet over forehead, with one end falling down along right cheek. Micaceous, reddish brown fabric (5YR 6/6) with small red and white inclusions; shiny black-to-brown glaze.
Fabric similar to that of 1765 and 1766. Similar Dionysos: 378. The shape may have been something like CVA, Stuttgart 1 [Germany 26], pls. 51, 52 [1263, 1264] and CVA, Philadelphia 1 [USA 22], pl. 22 [1078], Apulian red-figure oinochoai with appliqués in this position.
