Fragment with start of downturn on underside. Max. dim. 0.048.
Warrior (part of face, right hand with sword) to left, the sword overlapping an unintelligible bit of reserve (skin[?]). Relief contour.
Dilute glaze: part of hair.
The potting lines and the beginning of the downturn on the underside make clear that this fragment comes from a large flat lid, similar perhaps to the one in Princeton (86.34) attributed by Guy to Syriskos, which covered a dinos or a lebes gamikos and depicts the centauromachy with Kaineus. The little that remains on 1143 suggests that the warrior was about to deal a death blow to his opponent.
