Complete profile preserved. Lip offset inside and outside. Fillet between stem and foot; foot concave in profile. Underside glazed except for resting surface. Most of lip, all of one handle missing. Much of the white ground is yellowish; part of the reddish brown paint on the youth's himation has flaked, as has a bit of the drawing, in particular the strings of his lyre and the hare's whiskers.

I, youth tuning his lyre. The youth (back of head, right foot missing) stands to right, dressed in a himation. Around his head is a fillet. With his right hand he turns the tuning knobs, the strings of the instrument rest against his left, and the cord with plektron curves over one arm of the lyre. In front of the youth, a hare (part of ears, hind legs missing) to right. A line of dilute glaze separates the figured zone from the band of white slip on which is written:

Preliminary sketch. Dilute glaze: drawing. Matte: reddish brown (himation). White: fillet.

For the kalos name, see ARV2 one 923 (top); ARV2 1578; Addenda 389.
