Floor fragment with start of stem. Incised line on stem. Part of the glaze misfired to a reddish brown. Max. dim. 0.075; est. diam. of tondo 0.09. E. Vanderpool, Hesperia 15, 1946, p. 284, cat. no. 49, pl. 31:49.
I, satyr (most of head, shoulder, right arm) seen from the back, his head turned to right. There is something over his left shoulder that looks like a baldric. In the lower right, is the shaft of his thyrsos. Reserved line for tondo border, uneven. Preliminary sketch. Relief contour.
In Addenda and Corrigenda, p. 1952, to ARV2 one 116--117, Beazley says that 1587 "recalls the Pithos Painter and his Circle"; not in ARV2. Compare these three by the painter himself: Louvre G 91 (ARV2 139, 1); Louvre G 90 (ARV2 139, 4); and Vienna 3215 (ARV2 139, 5).
