Warriors (part of legs of each): lower part of short chiton and round shield (seen in three-quarter view) of left, part of chlamys of right, who also wears sandals laced high. Preliminary sketch.

90 is best compared with the large loutrophoros Athens (ex Schliemann)--Berlin 3209, published by G. Bakalakis in AK 14, 1971, pp. 74--83. It, like 90, represents the departure of a warrior for battle. The striking points of similarity are the departing warrior and his companion (AK 14, 1971, pl. 28:3) and the lacings of the boots of the warrior who stands behind the horseman (pl. 25:3). Beazley, in an oral communication reported by Bakalakis (AK 14, 1971, p. 76), saw the stylistic relationship with the Talos Painter, and Bakalakis (p. 77) pointed to specific details on the namepiece and on 388. Cf. also Amsterdam inv. 2474, a fragmentary loutrophoros by the Talos Painter (ARV2 1339, 4; Addenda 367).

Not from the same loutrophoros as 109. See below.
