Description: | Rope handle from amphora (?). Black flakey paint on coarse buff clay. ADDENDA 2018: Three fragments mended into two handles from the same rope-handled amphora. The exterior decoration consists of a swath of paint on the exterior of the handle, from rim to base, painted in short diagonal strokes. The bases of the handles were outlined with a medium band. The paint is thick, evenly applied, but badly worn in places, and fired black. The wear on the handles may be attributed to use. There are no traces of burning. Furumark Shape: 69 | |
