Title:   Closed Shape Fragment: Patterned
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Handle attachment. From a closed vase.
Dull black glaze. Coarse pale buff fabric.
ADDENDA 2018: Single sherd to a large closed shape with partially preserved vertical oval-section handle.
The exterior decoration consists of three medium bands running below the handle zone. Long tails extend from both sides of the vertical handle going through the triple band and ending in a spiral. The exterior of the handle has either an outline of medium bands or an X. There is a single piercing at the base of the handle to aid in firing.
The paint is thick, evenly applied, but slightly over-fired a kind of metallic dark brown. There are no traces of use-wear. The interior is discolored black -- it is not immediately clear if this is due to burning, application of an unknown substance, or environmental.
