Title:   Base Fragments
Category:   Inscriptions
Description:   Inscribed fragments of base.
Five fragments which join to form two.
Before being broken up for the well-curb the block had already been re-used as a threshold; there is a pivot hole on the top of fragment a) and traffic wear on the tops of both fragments. On the top of fragment a) is a cutting for a hook clamp leading back at right angles to the inscribed surface.
Note also that there is a vertical cutting rising from the bottom running parallel to the inscribed face at a distance of 0.255m. from it on both fragments. The underside is rough picked probably by some of the re-users. The top surface is also somewhat rough, though probably original; it steps up ca. 0.005m. at a distance of 0.145m. back of the inscribed face.
Inscribed on front.
Hymettian marble.
