Title:   White Ground Lekythos

Description:   Small fragments of shoulder, walls and foot missing; mouth and neck black; black below scene worn. In the neck, an inset, which alone could be filled from the mouth: H. 0.057 from neck down; Diam. 0.031; Th. of walls ca. 0.003. Flat bottom, left rough. At base of neck, egg pattern; three palmettes with tendrils on shoulder. Above scene, maeander broken by dotted X-squares. Reserved line below scene. A youth and a woman face each other at a stele; the youth, standing at the left, is nude, and holds a strigil in his left hand. On the wall behind him hangs an aryballos. The woman wears a purple chiton; in her left hand she holds an alabastron; with her right she clasps the top of her head. On the wall behind her, a cloth with strings (sakkos?). The plain stele rests on three steps, and is topped by a simple moulding, just below which are tied fillets, one red and one brown.
Firm glaze drawing (not relief lines) shading to brown; light brown for her hair.
