Title:   Panathenaic Amphora Fragments

Description:   Includes P 1447 bis.
a) and b) from the neck; near the top of a) a heavy ring, above which rises the handle attachment. Above the ring, debased palmette ornament; below it rays, alternating broad and narrow, widening towards the bottom. On b) remains of these rays, with hand grasping spear, back of helmet and trailing plume.
c) and d) = P 1447 bis, preserve more than half the rim, sharply flaring above the palmette ornament. The heavy white slip extends over the inside of the rim, the edge of which is painted red. Traces of red bands on the neck fragment above and below the ring.

ADDENDA Frr. (a)(a-b) is from one pot; fr. (b)(b-c) from another. Interior neck diam. of (a) greater than that of (b): 0.07m. & 0.05m.
